Formwork for the roof in Gostynin

Budosprzęt designed the formwork for the amphitheatre roof at the Gostynin Earth Museum for its client, Baukrane. The dome had a circular plan with a diameter of 11.40 m and a flattened cross-section resembling an ellipse. The rise of the dome was 4.50 m, and the keystone was situated at a height of 7.10 m above the stage floor. The formwork covered 180 degrees of the arc in plan view. It was proposed to divide the plan area into 8 sections (22.5 degrees each), with double-sided formwork extending to a height of approximately 4.13 metres, corresponding to an angular span of approximately 60 degrees. The keystone section of the dome was formed in the same way as a ceiling.

To facilitate the assembly of the formwork, separate layouts were designed: part as walls on self-supporting panels supported by a wall-bearing system, and part of the ceiling with an intermediate strip to be filled using pre-cut sheets of plywood. The entire formwork support system was proposed to be mounted on system towers. The formwork, prepared for the client as self-supporting spherical moulds, had to be underpinned with a load-bearing grid of timber joists once fixed and correctly positioned on site.

This approach made it possible to fit the panels by hand on site, which, given the complex spherical geometry, was an advantage and helped to simplify installation. The solid external panels were supported by a structure made of pine planks, and the arrangement of the beams reinforcing the structure was reversed. Given the lower aesthetic requirements regarding the quality of the external cladding, this solution made it possible to optimise the moulds and reduce their cost.
