Sculpture mould in Katowice

Realizacja projektu wykonawczego formy rzeźby w Katowicach | budosprzet.pl

The Budosprzęt technical office produced the detailed design for the sculpture mould based on guidelines received from the client in the form of a simplified geometric model.

A comprehensive mould model with machining recesses was prepared on the basis of this data. The challenges posed by the project included the complex shape, irregular angles between planes, and CAM machining. Scripts to automate the process of extracting information from the model proved helpful at this stage, such as the cutting angle of the edges of specific planes, the positioning of the panels, and setting them in the correct orientation. A single misalignment of a sheet would have caused deviations to accumulate on each subsequent sheet, resulting in significant distortion. Here too, Grasshopper scripts were used to generate positioning pins on the joints, in order to speed up and parameterise this process.

Given their complexity, the assembly of the moulds proceeded very smoothly. During assembly, staff did not use paper documentation but instead relied on a browser to view the 3D models. The model was made available on the company server, and staff had access to a tablet on which they could view the virtual model. This proved to be an ideal solution, minimising the need to prepare numerous assembly drawings, which, given the complex shape of the structure, would have been a very laborious process.

The sculpture can be seen in Wolności Square in Katowice.
